“ Every year, global emissions from textile production are equivalent to 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2, a figure that outweighs the carbon footprint of international flights and shipping combined. If the fashion industry were a country, its emissions would rank almost as highly as the entire European continent.”

– Unearthed by Greenpeace

Amy and Hannah, POKITA’s founders, are trying to buck the trend of fast fashion using virgin materials not manufactured to last. As a small brand, they do not have all the answers, but are working with their suppliers to use regenerated fabric made from leftover material and waste garments to make new high quality activewear fibres. This not only reduces waste but also the process of regenerating what was destined to go to landfill is less harmful to the planet than creating new, virgin fabrics.

They have designed their packaging from recycled plastics and paper that can be repurposed  for alternative use, or recycled again. It is a long process, continuous learning and education on how small brands can create good behaviours for the future – it won’t happen overnight but POKITA is committed to going the extra mile to create a brand that doesn’t add to the problem.
